Litigation Group Ransmeier & Spellman Professional Corporation, located next to the State House in Concord, New Hampshire, is 15 full-time attorneys providing a wide range of legal services to individuals, families, businesses, institutions and municipalities. The Ransmeier & Spellman Litigation Group advises and represents clients in all areas of litigation except state criminal law. Members of the litigation group represent clients at all levels of the New Hampshire court system -- the District, Probate, Superior and Supreme Court -- as well as State Administrative Agencies. We also represent clients in the United States District Court, Bankruptcy Court and First Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition, we provide instruction to the public and fellow practitioners on litigation-related topics through continuing legal education seminars and in-house training workshops for clients. RANSMEIER & SPELLMAN LITIGATION GROUP The Firm presently has 9 attorneys in its Trial Department: LAWRENCE S. SMITH. Larry has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1977 and handles the administration of our trial department. He has tried numerous jury and bench trials at all levels of the court systems. Larry has extensive experience in defending medical negligence and products liability actions. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute's (DRI) Medical Professional Liability Committee. MICHAEL LENEHAN. Mike has been a trial attorney in New Hampshire since 1980 and has concentrated on insurance law and insurance defense since 1983. From 1975 to 1980, he practiced in Washington, D.C. Mike concentrates his practice in general insurance defense matters as well as insurance coverage disputes. Mike is a Past President of the Northern New England Defense Counsel Association. STEVEN E. HENGEN. Steve has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1983. From 1976 to 1983, he practiced law in Boston where, in addition to civil litigation, his work involved employment and labor law matters and included a substantial volume of arbitration and agency practice. Steve has extensive trial experience in the state and federal court and has argued several cases on appeal. Lately, he has focused much of his practice on professional negligence matters, primarily medical. Steve is an officer of the Merrimack County Bar Association. CHARLES P. BAUER. Charlie has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1980 and joined Ransmeier & Spellman in 1991 as a director. He has jury, bench, and administrative trial experience in the state and federal system as well as appellate experience. He successfully argued the case Town of Newton v. Rumery, 480 U.S. 386 (1987) before the United States Supreme Court. Much of Charlie's current practice is devoted to representing municipalities and related entities, as well as representing both plaintiffs and defendants in general civil litigation. GARRY R. LANE. Garry has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1986. From 1980 to 1986, he practiced in Connecticut and in the federal courts in New York and other states. Garry practices general civil litigation, but much of his practice focuses on business and aviation litigation and employment law cases. He has substantial experience in injunction hearings, particularly in the federal courts. He is a pilot and handles all aviation related litigation for the firm including representation of aviation insurers, pilots, airlines, and fixed base operators. R. MATTHEW CAIRNS. Matt has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1986. He has federal and state court jury and bench trial experience as well as experience in administrative hearings before numerous state agencies including the Department of Labor and Department of Safety. Matt's experience includes complex matters such as federal civil rights, federal copyright and products liability cases. A graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA), Matt is a member and past officer of the Daniel Webster Chapter of the American Inns of Court. JOHN T. ALEXANDER. John has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1989. He is a graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and has jury and bench trial experience in the state courts. He also has argued several cases before the New Hampshire Supreme Court. John is currently an officer of the Daniel Webster Chapter of the American Inns of Court. PAUL H. MACDONALD. Paul has been practicing in New Hampshire since 1991. He concentrates the litigation portion of his practice in matters involving municipalities, including land use and civil rights actions. Paul also has experience in insurance coverage matters, most recently in a federal court bench trial. |
