Paul was born in Concord,
Massachusetts on March 18, 1963 and grew up in Underhill, Vermont. He graduated from
Dartmouth College in 1985.
While at Dartmouth Paul played varsity baseball and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon
fraternity. After a short stint at Boston University's graduate school of English
and working as an editorial assistant for D.C. Heath & Co., a college textbook
publisher, Paul attended Vanderbilt
University School of Law where he was an Associate Editor for the Vanderbilt Law
Review.
Paul presently lives in Contoocook, New
Hampshire with his wife Nancy Skarmeas, son Gordie and daughter Fiona, and their two Dalmatians.
A fly fisherman and fly tier for twenty years, Paul is active in conservation
issues and has participated in a number of the Land Trust Alliance's
National Rallies over the past five years. He is also a member of Trout Unlimited
and The Society for the Protection of New
Hampshire Forests. In addition, Paul is Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of
Concord Conservation Trust, a land trust dedicated to preserving open space in Concord and
its environs. Paul is also a Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Capital Region Food
Program and serves on the Executive Committee of the Food Program's Holiday Food Basket
Project.
